SNOWBOUND

We looked upon a world unknown,

On nothing we could call our own

Around the glistening wonder bent

The blue walls of the firmament,

No cloud above, no earth below, -

A universe of sky and snow!

The old familiar sights of ours

Took marvelous shapes;

strange domes

and towers

Rose up where sty or corn crib stood,

Or garden wall, or belt of wood;

A smooth white mound the brush pile showed,

A fenceless drift what once was road;

The bridle post an old man sat

With loose-flung coat and high cocked hat;

The well curb had a chinese roof;

And even the long sweep, high aloof,

In its slant splendor, seemed to tell

Of Pisa's leaning miracle.

We awoke to a world of white as overnight the cold winter winds brought to us a beautiful and pearlized gift of newly fallen SNOW! The kids were mesmerized to see their world transformed by 12 inches of pure FUN! The girls tried to follow Andrew wherever he went, but as soon as they stepped out into the snow drifts they were buried waist deep! Lots of face plants later...they finally figured out to only go where Daddy has made a pathway. :) Both girls loved trying to help shovel and Andrew was of course being all boy and was covered head to toe in snow. He didn't seem to care that it was going down his coat, into his boots, and all over his face. He certainly only has one mode - go! David and Andrew walked down to the park to go sledding on the little hills in our neighborhood. And then when the snow plows came through, the kids were excited to see them pile up our sidewalks with a mountain of snow for sledding! It has been several winters since Indiana has been blessed with this much snow. No school today - just shoveling and sledding. Our wonderful neighbors came over to help dig us out! Believe it or not, Shelly had already shoveled the driveway two times the afternoon and evening before! It sure was some winter-storm! We are thankful for family days like today and it is so much fun watching our wonderful children playing together and having the time of their lives! When it was time to come inside, the girls ate their lunch like they were starving! Everyone had worked up quite an appetite. Being SNOWBOUND is so much more fun when we are all together!
