David is helping out as Andrew's Bear Scout Den Leader this year, and it has been really special for both of them to work on the projects together and even go overnight camping with the pack. Tonight was another opportunity for them to celebrate their hard work in building Andrew's Pine Wood Derby Car. This year they made it faster by adding extra weight (as allowed), and by focusing on making sure the car received a "tune-up" with graphite powder each time before it raced. It was very exciting to see Andrew's car perform so well! He ended up placing 2nd for the Bear den and placing 4th over all out of at least 16 cars. Pretty good for only his 2nd year to build a car. Some of the cars were built more for show - like the fun pencil car! Loved that one! Other cars were built for speed and to be show-stoppers. The one car looked like a Formula 1 racing machine! It performed superbly too! The girls helped to cheer everyone on - clapping and hurraying really LOUDLY. I think the neatest part about Cub Scouts is seeing all the Dads present and the hands-on teamwork with their sons and just the quality time that is shared between them. Very cool!

I can't wait until Jaxson and Chris can do stuff like that. Looks like they had fun.
