The Super Mario Brothers Great Halloween Caper was the theme for this year's costumes! The boys wanted to dress up as characters from one of their favorite video games! It was fun having Spencer (my brother) help with the costume ideas and he even made the game controller box that Joel wore. The kids had so much fun going trick-or-treating together even though mommy was a bit stressed about trying to come up with their costume ideas.
Jessa was a Power-Up Mushroom, Hollyn was a Piranha Pipe Plant, and Andrew was Luigi
Can you find the characters that are kids match?
Jack is Mario, Quinn is Yoshi, and Josie is Princess Peach
The Mario Brothers and the Game Controller
We used a swimming foam "noodle" to make the pipe and stem and then I painted and cut out the mouth on a foam ball and attached it with duct tape to the red hat. Unfortunately, it didn't stay put because she was so excited and kept untying everything and flopping her head around...by the end of the night she was just a cute little girl in green sweats and a red hat. Maybe a Christmas tree! :)
For Jessa's Power-up Mushroom costume, we used a Minnie-Mouse costume that I won on E-bay and tucked the hooded-ears inside the back collar. Then added a Mushroom hat that I also won on E-bay. Pretty cute!
Andrew was Luigi and we used an old pair of Aunt Jamie's overalls, a green turtle-neck that we bought at Goodwill, yellow foam "paper" for the buttons, white gloves that Stephanie bought at Wal-mart two for $1.00, a green John-Deere hat that we covered with a foam cut-out of the 'L' and of course the fake moustache.
By this point, David was carrying the Piranha head up to the door so the neighbors could "see" what she was supposed to be. LOL!
